The "Herd Dance", is a mural from the courtyard at the Indian Pueblo Cultural center, painted by famed Santa Clara muralist Pablita Velarde. The mural represents the harmony between humans and the hooved animals that provide food to the Pueblo people.
The Herd Dance, depicts a group of male dancers as deer, antelope and ram. led by two male buffalo dancers and one female dancer. A special feature, Pablita, added a self portrait, representing herself as the lone female dancer.
Pablita Velarde was known as Tse Tsan, meaning " Golden Dawn". In her lifetime she was as accomplished teacher, lecturer, author, illustrator and painter and all around artist. Share this wonderful set year round honoring Pueblo culture and the beautiful beasts that give life.
