Dominic Melchor Small Traditional Bowl

Handcrafted by Santo Domingo artist Dominic Melchor, this polychrome bowl features traditional designs. Features a stone polish bottom and interior.

It is thought that around 1700, the Spanish stopped all native access to the lead/silver ore sources that the Cochiti, Santo Domingo and San Felipe potters had been using for paints to decorate their pots. With that, pottery making in the pueblo reverted to simple shapes made and polished out of base clay. Families like the Melchors's are reviving the history of the Pueblo and paving the road for future potters. This piece honors the history and tradition of Santo Domingo Pueblo and will be a cherished addition to any collection.

Bowl measures 5-1/4" long and wide, stands 2-3/4" tall. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.
