Handcrafted by Zuni Pueblo artist Brian Peynetsa this snake features etching throughout, an element that gives additional depth. In Zuni culture, the snake symbolizes life, death, and rebirth and in this hand carved marble snake accented with turquoise eyes A celebration of Zuni culture and the Native American legacy of carving.
While many tribes and Pueblos of the Southwest are known for making fetishes, but this ancient art form is most closely associated with the Zuni, who are considered the most skilled fetish carvers. Early Zuni fetishes were called "Ahlashiwe", or stone ancients. Traditionally, they depict wolves, bears, mountain lions, eagles, frogs, rabbits, fish, corn maiden, and other animals.
Carving measures 4-3/4" long5/8' wide, stands 1/2' tall. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.
