Native Americans are inspired by their rich cultural history and the traditions of art, dance, community, and cuisine that have been carefully handed down for generations.
In Hopi culture, seed keepers are elders, often women, who safeguard knowledge of Hopi ceremonies to protect the seeds. In this drawing Hopi maidens are holding various seeds for crops. They are surrounded by elements of clounds and rain in a matted 10" long and 8" wide print.
Dalton James is a self-taught artist from Hopi Pueblo, and is a member of the Tobacco Clan from the village of Hotevilla in northeastern Arizona.
